Why We Still Hum the Dittrich Furs Jingle 40 Years Later

About a year ago I got in touch with singer Larry Santos, and we caught up on a Zoom call.

Larry and I had first met on a show titled “Hot Fudge” where we both wrote music for kids. The show aired in over 76 cities across the country.

Larry’s voice was quite popular back then as he’d sung on so many national spots including Budweiser and Pan Am Airlines as well as appearances on shows like American Bandstand and Johnny Carson. In the early 80s I had Santos sing the iconic jingle for Dittrich Furs.

We continued working together on music for Whirlpool, the Detroit Red Wings, and various other songs.

In this clip I had an opportunity to reminisce with Santos about the Dittrich spot which followed us around for 40 years. With the announced shut down of Dittrich Furs, the ad has gotten notable attention in past few weeks.
