Life is often stranger than fiction.  People ask me If my stories are fictitious.  I assure you, they are all 100% true.  This one left me particularly red in the face.

In the early ‘90s I was invited to a luncheon with the Metro Detroit ad community, of which I have been a part of for 40-some years.  This particular event was music themed and so Detroit’s Adcraft Club invited me to sit at the head table next to special guest speaker, Quincy Jones.

I had admired Quincy all the way back to the ‘60s, when he had written the score for the film, “The Pawnbroker” featuring Rod Steiger.  The music was truly captivating in a way that I had never experienced before.  The thought of sitting next to such an icon during this function was not only incredibly inspiring, but also got me thinking that I could possibly supply him with new music for the artists on his record label.

Ambition can certainly be an admirable characteristic, but sometimes it might land you in a place you never expected.
