In 2014 I sat down at my piano and started writing the beginnings of what would become “An Armenian Trilogy”. The centennial of the Armenian Genocide was approaching fast and I was inspired by Father Garabed Kochakian’s vision of a musical commemoration as a tribute.
2015 marked the premiere of “An Armenian Trilogy” as a duet at the Macomb Center for the Performing Arts here in Michigan, after which I was inspired again…to expand the composition to full symphonic orchestration. In 2017 I traveled to my ancestral homeland and witnessed the Armenian National Philharmonic Orchestra perform “An Armenian Trilogy” with the force of a 90-piece ensemble.
In this video, producer Ohad Wilner and I discuss my experiences during the process of composing and arranging the music, the logistical challenges of an premiere overseas, and the honor I felt while fundraising for the Children of Armenia Fund.
