How do you introduce somebody who needs no introduction?

A man with a voice familiar to millions who listened to him nightly as the voice of their beloved baseball team, and a loving presence to those who had the privilege of knowing him personally.

Ernie Harwell was the Detroit Tigers announcer for over 40 years.  Calling every broadcast with his southern warmth and signature one-liners, Harwell was truly a one-of-a-kind.  Personable, creative, and down to earth; I’m honored to say that Ernie and I were not only friends, but also co-writers.

Thanks to an introduction from our mutual friend, John Delle-Monache, Ernie Harwell and I collaborated on a number of songs, some of which played regularly on WJR radio.

Stay tuned next week for part 2 of Stranger Truths featuring Ernie Harwell.
