It’s the end of an era, but music and culture lives forever.
Detroit’s iconic Dittrich Furs has announced their closing, marking the end of a 132 year family run business.
In the early 1980s I got a call from Hal Dittrich and I was asked to write a jingle for his business. It was to be catchy, memorable, and the lyric needed to repeat the name of the business over and over.
I called singer Larry Santos – with whom I’d collaborated in the past – and Marj Haber to record vocals.
I never imagined how long the jingle would air and that it would become part of the fabric of Detroit’s culture…but I’m forever thankful for that opportunity and that it remains on the lips of people who continue to sing it to this day.
